Science worksheets on the topic "Water" for teaching in a school garden
Kakešová, Kristýna ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Svobodová, Silvie (referee)
Most elementary schools in the Czech Republic have a school garden, but despite frequently emphasized benefits of fieldwork, it is difficult for many schools to include their school garden in their classes. Therefore, the main goal of this diploma thesis was to create and test worksheets for teaching in a school garden at the second grade of elementary school (i.e. pupils 12 to 15 years old). Ten worksheets are focused on the topic "water"; four of them are dedicated to measurement of precipitation. The created materials were tested at a small rural school, whose school garden has been modernized in recent years. After minor modifications, the worksheets are useable in all school gardens. This thesis also contains created materials - worksheets with author's solutions and methodological manuals for teachers. The second goal of this thesis was to determine the effect of teaching with these worksheets on the pupils' attitude towards the school garden and the environment. To collect data from 34 respondents, I used modified standardized research tools Inclusion of Nature in Self (INS) and Two Major Environmental Values (2-MEV), the research was based on pre-test/post-test design. The achieved results show a positive effect on the pupils' attitude towards the school garden, the effect on the pupils'...
Fieldwork in soil biology
Dufek, Dominik ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Blažová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis didactically processes three proposals of fieldwork for intermediate school pupils and students of lower grades of grammar schools. Two of the described sites for field education are located directly in the capital city of Prague (Prokopské valley, Meanders of Botič) and the third locality lies 30 km south of Prague (Medník). All field exercises are focused on soil, soil biology and ecology of selected localities. During the fieldwork, students apply active learning and record their results in worksheets. The first half of the thesis is a literary review describing the characteristics of the selected sites, the soil and soil organisms and selected methods of study of soil ecosystems. The last part of the literary review deals with general characteristics of field training as an organizational teaching form, its aims, methods and organization. The actual output of the whole work is the proposal of three fieldworks and methodological materials for teachers. Individual tasks in the worksheets are analysed from the didactical point of view. Two of the fieldworks were tested in school practice by the author of the thesis. The course of the two fieldworks commented and the results of the students' works are evaluated. The annex of the theses contains worksheets for students, their correct...

Methods efficiency of geography fieldwork
Uvízlová, Lenka ; Řezníčková, Dana (advisor) ; Hanus, Martin (referee)
This bachelors work has been created with the purpose of answering the question: "How can we increase the efficiency of fieldwork methods?". This has been answered by creating a qualitative questionnaire aimed at geography teachers at grammar schools, and also a pilot research has been contemplated. Conceptually, this work is split into two parts: theoretical part and methodological-empiric part: The Theoretical part. This is divided to three units. The first unit explains the content of the main terms connected with field geography education. It offers different variations of field education and the reader is introduced to meanings and benefits of this educational style for students. The second unit deals with the term "education efficiency and gives its possible homonyms and synonyms. By means of efficiency scheme and education levels it refers to the particular aspects which influence it. The third unit is focused on literature analysis. The Methodological-empiric part. This is inscribed to a closer approach of methodology of research work and collected data. It contains an explanation of a selection of used methods: introduction of qualitative research and controlled interview; and introduction of surveyed sample and analysis of the data. In the conclusion we discuss the pertinence of questionnaire, and...
Acculturation Strategies in Musical Self-presentations of Immigrants in the Czech Republic
Skořepová, Zita ; Jurková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Stavělová, Daniela (referee)
This thesis is based on my research dealing with musicians - members of different immigrant minority communities, who explicitly identify themselves with their ethnicity and the region of their origin. The musicians mention that they come, e.g., from Cuba, Ukraine or generally from "Central Asia" and the music offered to the audience is presented as "Cuban", "Ukrainian folk" or "traditional music of Central Asia". The subject of study are their concerts, regarded as musical occasions - performances - with defined modes of participants' interaction. In the Goffmanian sense, the meaning of each selfpresentation is determined by the behavior of the musicians during the performances, and the repertoire, place and occasion of the event and type of audience are considered as "bearers of sings". In their self-presentations, the musicians expose in various ways who they are, where they come from and in various ways present the musical (not only) culture of their origin. Inspiring myself by typology of acculturation strategies formulated by John W. Berry (Berry et al., 1997), I try to identify acculturation strategies based on factors determining the character of the respective musical self-presentations of the immigrants. When can we observe behavior according to the principles of integration on the one...
Botanical Field Trip to Doubrava River Valley for Lower Secondary Education
Hutař, Kamil ; Pavlasová, Lenka (advisor) ; Andreska, Jan (referee)
Nature trail "The valley of river Doubrava" connecting the village Bílek and the city Chotěboř in Železné hory, offers many possibilities on how to effectively include and use its surroundings in botanical and environmental education, which is the main goal of this diploma thesis. Theoretical part covers the characteristics of natural conditions of the nature trail territory as well as its significance and function. This part also describes, how this excursion fits in the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education. Didactical part broadly introduces methodical plan of the excursion. This includes the verification and evaluation of the excursion. The aim of the excursion is to deepen and revise botanical knowledge and natural relations of individual locations of the nature trail with a connection to environmental education and nature preservation. The final chapter of the thesis offers teachers practical ideas on how to use the plants variety of the Doubrava Valley in botanical and environmental education. The thesis also includes my own photo documentation throughout the whole excursion. These pictures not only draw near the work when fulfilling tasks and activities to students, but also demonstrate the diversity and uniqueness of a region, where the excursion takes place.
Biology Fieldwork in School Gardens in the Czech Republic
Kakešová, Kristýna ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Chlebounová, Irena (referee)
This bachelor's theses is dedicated to fieldwork in Biology at secondary school in the Czech Republic. It is dedicated to the topic of school gardens. The first part is presenting the advantages of fieldwork and also its obstacles, which could make the implementation of fieldwork harder. One of these concerns is the emplacement of Biology fieldwork in the curriculum for different educational levels (lower and upper secondary schools), where this method is not often explicitly included. The second part is dedicated to the school gardens in the Czech Republic, it summarizes results of studies exploring gardens' conditions, facilities, and usage. Results show that most of the lower secondary schools have their garden and they also use it for teaching, mostly practical subjects as gardening or cultivating work. In the case of upper secondary schools, there is a lack of comprehensive studies. Other foci of the thesis are: a history of school gardens in Czechia; organizations involved in Biology and Science education in school gardens, and selected teaching methods appropriate for teaching Biology in school gardens.
The Implementation of Education in Geology Science in High Schools
OUBRAMOVÁ, Jana
The bachelor thesis deals with the teaching of geology at the higher level of grammar schools. The aim is to map out the conditions under which the teaching is realized. The four main determinants for geology teaching at grammar schools - the framework educational program for grammar schools, school educational programs, textbooks and teaching methods were defined. In the theoretical part, the characteristics of these factors are presented. In the practical part of the thesis they are subjected to closer examination and confrontation. Based on the analysis of the educational programs, textbooks and teachers' opinions, the following conclusions were made: Geology is only marginally enrolled in some schools. Primary pupils come to grammar schools usually without interest in inanimate nature, and their knowledge is weaker than the knowledge of pupils coming from lower secondary schools. The continuity of the curriculum, which is evident from the curriculum documents, does not appear to be very effective in practice. The basic method of teaching that can attract pupils is practical learning of nature in the field. The personality and the teacher's approval are very important.
